I am running my first full marathon (26.2 miles) tomorrow here in the city of Cleveland, and I just wanted to take a moment and thank AKUS, but especially Alison, for getting me through the five months of cold, gray training that it took to get here.
I cannot even count the number of times that I left the house grumbling and chilly only to have Alison's voice lift me right out of myself and on down the road. Sometimes it's AKUS and AKUS alone for the whole 2-3 hours on the longer ones. I think it's a combination of the cadence, the solidity, and the genuine nature of every song they touch. The arrangements along with Alison's voice, there's just something that puts me very close to nature and what's around me, I feel the most a part of that when I have AKUS grounding me.
In addition, I have to give Alison alone credit, too, because when I listen to her, I know that I am listening to this brilliant and incredibly strong and unique woman who has worked incredibly hard to be out there in the world doing exactly what she should be doing. Now, running is not a natural talent of mine (believe me), but channeling Alison in some of those moments makes me work harder to make myself stronger, and to make the possibility of reaching my potential a reality, and the running is a part of that among other things in life.
So this is my tribute to how far (literally, measured by distance) AKUS has taken me and inspired me. I'll have them with me the whole way tomorrow. I hope I have the chance to thank her one day, maybe even one day this year if I can figure out how to do the tour bus stalking thing. ;D
PS - Does anyone else run or work out to AKUS music? What songs are your favorites to do so and why?
