Here is a link to an excerpt from a 1989 concert in San Francisco, where Alison laid down the fiddle and picked up the mandolin for two songs, "Steel Rails" and "Lighthouse" - and she played it really well!! Strummed along with her singing and also did a bit of soloing. At the end of the second song you can hear how she picked up the fiddle again. No end to her talents, apparently.... www.artpriebe.com/files/AKmand.mp3

Thanks so much, Turbo! You mentioned this a couple of months ago and I've been wanting to hear it ever since!
Yes, I would love to hear any recordings of her on guitar, as well!

Thanks for the link, Turbo.
Does anyone know who the other performers are on this recording?

Since this happened during the 1989 tour season, it's a safe bet that the other performers were the same as on the Two Highways album. (I assume you have that one, Philo??) The guy introducing Alison is Jeff White.

Thanks, Turbo. I wasn't sure whether it was Union Station or not, because I know AK has always joined other musicians on stage from time to time. If it's AKUS, who's singing the background vocal? Alison Brown joined the band in '89, but does she sing?
It's great, whoever's playing on it.

Dunno philo, probably Jeff, I don't think Alison Brown ever sang backup, but I could be wrong.

I do have a recording of AB singing backup and playing banjo on "Bury Me Beneath the Willow." I think it was an Opry performance. I also believe she sang backup on another tune they performed that same night. It was one they had written together called "You're So Far Away."

Oo, how did you get your hands on this one, turbo?? Great to know.. and great to hear! Thank you for sharing! Last night I had a dream about my sister beginning piano lessons with Alison. I woke up thinking fiddle couldn't be the only instrument she has succeeded with. Now I know there are two more to add! Funny how that worked out. I do have a recording of AB singing backup and playing banjo on "Bury Me Beneath the Willow." I think it was an Opry performance. Love that performance! Alison talking with a cold was very cute.
