Well, I went to the Reno concert at Lake Tahoe on Saturday (6-28) and I have to say that in the 9 or so weeks since I saw them at Chattanooga, all of the band members and Alison and Robert have GOTTEN BETTER!!! With Alison I should have learned by now not to be surprised when this happens, but she has come out with a new level of power, control, confidence and polish just in the last few weeks!! I was quite literally BLOWN AWAY by two of the songs she did, "So Long To You", and her solo part in the middle of "I'm In The Mood." With these two performances I think Alison has blown the doors off of Patsy Cline at her best, and has also left in her dust such famous powerhouse singers as Ann Wilson of Heart, and Pat Benatar, and even Reba MacIntyre (did I spell that right??) When many singers as they hit their mid-30s are in the twilight of their careers, I think we have only begun to hear the things that this lady will do in the years to come. I have posted here a link, it is to recordings taken from the audience of the two songs in questions, I apologize that the sound quality is not great and includes all the hoohah from the audience around me, but it is good enough to give you an idea of the awesome vocal performances Alison gives these songs. What a diva!!! And through it all her typical modesty and ladylike demeanor persisted even while she was knockin' em dead with her singing. What a gal. Enjoy: www.artpriebe.com/pblic_access.html

turbo-- Thank you , thank you. I have to agree with your assessment-- she has reached another level. I've been wondering for years , what that voice would sound like if she let it loose. Well now I know.!! I think I heard someone near you comment "dam* she's good". One of the reviewers noted in an article that Robert was the big name , but Alison was the star of the show. Finally !!!, people are finding out what we knew all along. Aren't we smart!! LOL

And we have such great taste too! ( well most of us. I will take the ones who mix whiskey as the exceptions proving the rule ;D )

I have always said she would do great doing a hard core country album.

Must say, I was skeptical reading this. Love Alison, but Pasty had some lungs! To my surprise, I am in full agreement with you. As well as being soft and subtle with songs, she can definitely be a power house too. I didn't think the woman could do any better on "Matty Groves" than what I had already heard.. and she completely blew me away with it. Listening to "So Long to You", I have become absolutely speechless. I don't know why I'm attempting to post about it because I can barely organize my thoughts. I'm almost even crying because I'm so excited. Thank you for this, turbo! This live audio has made me sort of curious. I haven't been to a show on this tour, but I'm wondering if the sound quality is as good as it is with AKUS. And it also didn't hit me until now that going to an AKUS show at times made me feel like I was strapped to the seat and had to be quiet when I really wanted to jam and sing too. I guess with this tour, I could have the chance!

Wow, you are so right about that, turbo! I was blown away too. I wonder if part of the reason her voice is stronger now is that she is only doing part of the lead singing and little of the talking to the audience that she does with AKUS, really giving her voice a rest between songs. Whatever the reason, I am sure looking forward to hearing more of the "new" Alison, she sounds incredible! I do remember getting a glimpse of this when AKUS appeared on Shania's TV special. At the time I had remarked that, in his mix, Mutt Lange put Alison's voice over Shania's when Alison backed up Shania on "All Night Long". You got a glimpse of Alison's power-house voice then but nothing like it is shown in these clips. Thanks for sharing these with us!

I do have the audio (and the DVD) from the concert, but I never really noticed this... Is it an other version or so, or should I pay more attention while listening?

Hey akusgal - The sound system at the Chattanooga show was terrible, I thought - or maybe it was that it overwhelmed the acoustics of that old hall. Very echoey and hard to understand the lyrics. But at the Reno outdoor show the sound system was perfect! Every word, every lick, clear as a bell. I guess it varies from venue to venue. As far as the audience, those Plant fans are a definitely more rowdy bunch!! But they seemed to worship Alison!!!!

I didn't get to see them when they came to Louisville, but I wasn't sure exactly how the sound would have been. Of course it was wonderful for AKUS because The Palace is the perfect place for acoustics. I'll remember what you said for future reference. Thank you!

Hi Eilleen, I'm Ilene too only I spell it differently (and you spell it like Shania does, or did you borrow her spelling?) In answer to your question, if you listen closely to All Night Long you will repeatedly hear Alison's voice over Shania's, particularly when they sing the chorus. IMO, that's how Mutt intentionally mixed the song... At least that's how it sounds to me from the original program (which I taped). I don't have the DVD so I don't know if they changed the mix on that.

Hi Eilleen, I'm Ilene too only I spell it differently (and you spell it like Shania does, or did you borrow her spelling?) I borrowed her whole name . My own name is Louise (but I hate it). I used this name on a Shania forum and now I use it everywhere because it's always available and it's sort of my "ID" on the net . I prefer the way your name is spelled by the way . Ilene looks better than Eilleen.
