I just found out that for my show, the Warren, OH charity show on this Friday, the 7th, that absolutely NO cameras are allowed, which means no videos OR pictures. Is this the policy for all of their charity shows? Has anyone else been told the same thing?

Where did you read this?
I'm not sure about charity shows, but I've been to numerous shows elsewhere (AKUS and non-AKUS) where it's said that. It really all depends on security. There's only been one or two shows in my life (out of 20+) where I've been bothered by security for taking pictures/recording, and probably all but two or three shows said no cameras.
I saw AKUS at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and it said no cameras were allowed but I took video and pictures and was never bothered by security. I just saw them in Knoxville too and the theater said no FLASH photography, video recording or audio recording. I was slightly bothered by security once for recording video (I mostly stopped until the encore or until I saw a bunch of other people video recording...sorry, I'm a rebel) but nothing drastic. I also didn't use the flash on my camera at all, and I covered up the orange light with my fingers (but that was more for Alison's sake than for following the rules, lol) but there were quite a few flashes that went off.
Hope that helped. My advice to you is if you really want to, bring a camera and then see how it goes at the actual show, there's really no good way to predict it beforehand. Usually if it's a small theater (which it looks like the venue for the Warren show is), they can be fairly strict about it.

I called the venue and found this out.
Their policy (I'm assuming for this specific show since I've read on their Facebook page people asking about cameras and they've been allowed to bring them) is absolutely NO CAMERAS WHATSOEVER, for video or pictures. Who I spoke to said, "That's what they're (I'm assuming management/the band) telling us."
At first he said, "No recording devices." and I asked if that was just for video and not pictures and then he clarified, "No cameras."

Hmm, yeah, I hate to say it but it looks like they're going to be pretty strict about that, then.

Oh dear, I hope Alison and the boys aren't going back to their old obsession with no recording of any kind ever.

Just go on YouTube to see all the many videos, most of them not very good but a few VERY good, up close and personal! It's impossible to keep away all the cameras. The secret is, if you find a good video on YouTube, download it IMMEDIATELY because there are people scanning YT and removing Alison videos randomly, for copyright infringement. A good video might only be up for a day or two. This is understandable, a good management company watching out for the financial interests of a client band, needs to keep this stance, otherwise the Internet piracy would run so rampant that it would actually make a significant detrimental effect on the financial security (and hence, the longevity) of the band or artist. I as a songwriter, who have yet to see any royalties from any of my songs, totally understand and defend this policy. (That doesn't mean I won't download a good Alison video, can't get enough of seeing her!!) Speaking about musical artists in general, (not about Alison!!!) a performer only has a limited number of years in which they can draw the big crowds, then they fade out. Look at Kenny Rogers for example, his 50th year anniversary show took over a year before it found a network that would air the special after it was filmed. His sun has already set. So, a wise performer tries to make whatever money they can "while the sun shines", in order to save it and live off it after their fame has gone. Of course some performers blow everything on cocaine and wind up broke, but wise, calm, controlled persons (like Alison!!) should be able to live comfortably even if they live to be well over 100 (like Alison we hope!!!)

Honestly, the vast majority of AKUS' fanbase - the people who buy out all of their shows and fill the theatres - are not the kind of people who substitute downloading mp3s and watching YouTube videos for buying music and concert tickets. No offense to anyone here, but AKUS' fanbase consists mostly of middle-aged and older people who are still new to YouTube, and who have traditional ideas about paying for media instead of consuming it on the internet for free. Most of AKUS' fanbase are rather casual fans as well, not the type of hardcore fans who will bother to search out YouTube content in the first place. AKUS is very fortunate in having a fanbase that isn't that interested in piracy, no matter how much pirated content actually exists online.
In any case, I don't know anyone who watches YouTube videos instead of going to concerts. A concert experience can't be replicated by just watching a video online. That's why many artists are making most of their money these days from concerts instead of record sales - because concerts, unlike records, are something that people will still pay for. So this pervasive idea that concert videos put a dent in artists' earnings is really quite nonsensical.
I'd wager that if Alison and the boys have a problem with YouTube concert videos, it's because they're uncomfortable with the idea of their every move at each and every show being documented forever before the eyes of the world. We all know what perfectionists they are AND how generally private they are. I think that's why they used to be so rabid about preventing photography. Let's hope that if the strict no-recording policy at the benefit shows is indeed a mandate from AKUS themselves, it's because they want to keep the benefit shows private and special, not because they're going off on a new anti-recording kick.

I'm sure what I saw on Friday was one of the greatest things I will ever see in my life. But before the concert, when the usher was showing us to our seats, we just kept going closer and closer to the front and I was like, "No way, we are not THAT close..." We had 4TH ROW seats. 4th row seats to see my favorite bluegrass band for the very first time. I could've died right then. ;D (We had the closest seats for the price of our tickets, 3rd row was the next highest price) We sat down and I couldn't stop grinning and thinking about how this day had finally come. I saw Jerry's guitars and they were right in front of me when I looked straight ahead, so I knew that Jerry was going to be in front of me for the show. More almost-dying commenced. ;D My Jerry love runs almost as deep as my Alison love, I could listen and watch Jerry play 24/7/365. Dan came out early before showtime to tune his guitars and stuff. That was cool. Here's a pic from my phone: i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa278/tolliver_15_kurox/p_00039.jpgSo...the lights dimmed and the cheers started...they all came out and launched into "Paper Airplane". I love that song almost as much as I do "Let Me Touch You For Awhile" (my favorite) and I figured they would open with it. I think "Dustbowl Children" was next...man, can Dan sing. So the concert was going...Alison introduced the guys and told us how Dan loves to shop at Costco and buy things in bulk. lol Somebody in audience yelled out that they don't have that in the Warren area and she asked, "Do you guys have Sam's Club?" And they said, "Yeah." Dan recently bought some type of blender/juicer to blend stuff like Ron does. lol When she introduced Ron, she said, "He's from Torrance, California. He's our vegetarian. He's from where they make 'em." LOL. I love her humor. With Barry she talked about him hunting and asked what animal he uses the most parts of after he kills it. He said ducks and I think turkey and with the ducks Alison joked that he makes duck feet spatulas and duck bill guitar picks. lol Those were running jokes for the rest of the night. All she said for Jerry was about him being the best dobro player in the world...enough said. Jerry talked before doing his solo and I don't know, I like to hear him talk. lol I liked when he talked about how when he was growing up in Warren how the steel mills were booming and a guy yelled out, "We're still here!" and he was like, "D**n right." I LOL'd when he was done and he was like, "I'm gonna play now." all awkward-like. He lets the dobro speak for him. Jerry's solo was AMAZING. It was something else to watch him, my eyes were glued to him. He goes into a zone and is possessed by that dobro or something. It is an extension of himself. Wow. It was cool to see Dan come out and do part of "Pastures of Plenty" with a banjo right before "The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn". "Who's Your Uncle", "Let Me Touch You For Awhile", and "Dimming of the Day" were other musical highlights. The encore was amazing, all of the songs were. I loved really hearing Barry sing during "Down to the River to Pray". I have a new appreciation for his bass playing and singing, he's the backbone of the band. This one guy in the front row stood like three different times. The first he gave Alison a bouquet of flowers which she accepted gracefully and set them on a stool behind her. The second time he stood right in front of the stage and got his "picture" with Alison during a song. LOL The usher almost made it over to tell him to sit down before he did. I forget what he did the third time. lol He was probably drunk but it was funny. As far as the "no cameras" thing...it wasn't a problem. Plenty of people had cameras and it was no big deal, thank God. My camera is old and sucks so I got like no good pics and three videos. My aunt had a better camera than me and she got some awesome ones, she sells cameras for a living and does side jobs like weddings and stuff so she knows her way with a camera. I will upload them when I get them, the videos, too. ;D I love this band. It is something truly special when these five people play together. I could go see them in concert five million more times, hopefully there are more opportunities soon. I love this style of music and I think it takes a special person to love and appreciate it like it should be. More than the music, making memories with my aunt was the best part. An unforgettable night, it makes my disappointment back in July over the Chautauqua, NY show worth it. Thanks for the recap! It's funny to see they're still doing some of the routines they did earlier in the tour. Alison has a bit of a fixation on the things Barry can do with duck parts, lol.
That man who stood up and took a picture of himself DURING THE SHOW... I can't even. Who does that?! And the thing is, being in the first row, he was going to get to meet her and have a picture with her after the show anyway! So ridiculous. Also that means she had to meet that dickbag after the show and be polite to him. Ugh. This is why we can't have nice things.
Thanks for the pictures and the video, too! I'm glad you had such a great experience. =) And I'll be looking forward to those other pictures!

Tolliver, fantastic!!! Looks like you enjoyed the show as much as I did in Bend in July. Can't wait to see your aunt's pics!!!
If I knew how to re-set the auto-edit on this site I probably would crank it down a notch or two, don't have any idea what a thingybag is.......

"d*ckbag," lol. Truthfully I was just curious to see how the site would auto-edit the word "d*ck," especially considering it's a name and all.
Thingybag works, though.
