Been awhile since I've been on here, but thought I'd drop in to let you all know what the charity event for the Linden Wardoff (sp?) school was all about. The event was held at the Loveless Barn this past Saturday (3/17).
It's very cool and intimate event... There were about fifteen rows of chairs... if AKUS plays next year, I'm definitely going again. Basically, after the live auction where rich people bid way too high on items ($1100 for a year of bread made by kindergartners!), AKUS played a near complete set. The only thing they didn't play was the single mic encore. They did play "No More Lonely Nights" which is really the song I wanted to hear them play live.
After their set they left the stage for a bit while the chairs and tables were cleared. And then they came back on stage and played a hoe-down, barn dance, or whatever you want to call it.
After about my fifteenth whiskey, I decided to give it a go and I ended up in the circle with the "caller" right in front of the stage. I was able to speak with Dan Tyminski from the dance floor. During the dancing, Alison was noticeably looking at me laughing. I would too, after all, I'm a drunk Asian trying to square dance in Nashville, TN... probably not a normal site for her.
All good, though, because after the barn dance the entire band signed my Paper Airplane LP. During the barn dance (while I was getting a drink), my wife went to the front of the stage and chatted with Jerry Douglas while she got my Rounder 44 signed.
Very cool night... very special night... it was great seeing them play something outside their usual live repertoire. I have pics and some videos, but they're slightly shaky due to my inability to find equilibrium at the time.
