Just got this twee that Alison needs to keep vocal rest, and she will not perform at Wide Open Bluegrass next week. Not that i would attend the event, but i still feel sad that she cannot perform. I hear it quite often. That artists need to keep rest....

I just saw that tweet eileen, hopefully this will go away...I know dysphonia can be very serious. It's why Tony Rice lost his singing voice. Same for Shania Twain. She was supposedly going to try to make a comeback a few years ago but AFAIK she hasn't performed yet

I pray for Alison and my other female favorite LeAnn Rimes. She suffered a blow to her throat from being sick with a really bad cough about a week ago while in Dublin, Ireland and had to cancel her show there due to being put on voice rest by a throat specialist. God bless you and her and Alison always!!! Holly (a day one fan of LeAnn)

Alison is in my thoughts. Although, if Shania Twain was able to continue singing, there's a good chance (after some rest and vocal therapy), Alison would come back singing.

Saw this posting re Alison, sounds like dysphonia just might be a catch-all term for singers:
Nashville Spasmodic Dysphonia Support Group If she plans on a recovery, she might have muscle tension dysphonia which is common in singers. MTD differs from spasmodic dysphonia. Spasmodic dysphonia is neurological, while MTD is related to overuse or misuse of the cords and can be overcome or improved with a combo of exercises, rest and anxiety-reducing therapy.

It does sound like that it is something most singers do get. If not mistaken, there were even been a few other country singers (besides Alison and Shania) that has that, and after about 3 weeks or so, they were back singing again. So, I'm very sure that Alison will be back on her feet again (after some vocal rest) in no time.

I don't know hopw long it took Shania Twain from being diagnosed to singing again. I do know that she is doing a great job in Vegas, since I went to see the opening show on December 1st 2012. Vocally, the opening show was a little bit disappointing (IMO), but the second show was great. On opening night Shania was quite emotional, and that affected her singing big time. But as soon as she was more relaxed, it was great.
I hope Alison will be back on her singing feet soon. She has an amazing voice, and it would be such a shame if she wouldn't be able to sing anymore. I mean, she is made for singing, and losing that ability would be devistating for her I guess. But time will learn.

I remembered seeing this sometime back at RolandNote.com. It's not the first time Alison has had to take vocal rest: www.rolandnote.com/people.php?scode=timeline&keyword=Alison+Krauss&page=10"Mar 6, 2003 Alison Krauss is ordered by a doctor to take time off for vocal rest. As a result, she postpones a "CMT Crossroads" taping with Aerosmith's Steven Tyler" (she was performing a month later) Alison has stated herself that she doesn't do anything special to take care of her voice... so it is bound to get tired. There is also stress to consider as she is preparing for a new album. So lets keep her in our prayers and expect her to bounce back quickly and not expect the worst.

^^^ I pray that her attitude eventually changed because a voice like hers shouldn't be taking a blow by anything. God bless you and Alison always!!! Holly

Jerry consoled the crowd: Voice problems forced Grammy-winning fiddler and vocalist Alison Krauss to cancel her participation in the Epic Collaboration. But Douglas told the crowd he and Alison had spoken. He assured that Alison was “OK,” and that we would hear her “sweet voice” once again. The good news was warmly received.
