It must have been in 95-96. It was around the same time that Wynonna from the Judds was also being stalked. I read about it a long time ago, the police in Franklin were concerned because both were from the same area and they were afraid that their celebrities (which are many, for those of you not familiar with Franklin, it is a suburb of Nashville and a favorite for artists) were not safe. I don't know specifics about what happened and if he was caught.

Gosh, I had no idea either. I'm just glad she and Wy are ok and that it's over. Wow, that's just such an awful thing, I can't believe people actually do that.. but it's an odd world. Thanks for sharing it with us Jason, I had no clue about any of that.. but then again I was pretty little, so I guess I wouldn't know.

. I wonder why Meredith is not the nanny anymore. And didn't her husband get fired from the Del McCoury band? Meredith and husband Mike Bub had their own child last year. Where did you hear he isn't playing with the Del McCoury Band anymore? I don't think that's true.

I don't know the personals about Mike Bub, but I do know for sure that he is no longer with the Del McCoury band. It was mentioned quite a bit at the IBMAs last month. I don't know any details except to tell you that it is true.

Hi Candi. Wow, that is news! It must have happened recently as I saw Bub playing with McCoury at the Opry when it was on TV a couple of months ago. Wasn't he with Del McCoury for like a really long time? The information msgeiger posted about Bub and his wife were correct though, I remember hearing that a while ago.

It must have happened VERY recently, because when they Mike was talking about it when he received his award some people were kind of looking at each other in confusion. But, it was also not so recently to not have time to find a backup bassist. However, it was shocking news to me when it was spoken about. But, Mike is an awesome guy and bassist and I'm sure he'll have no problem moving on to bigger and better things!

Mike Bub was fired from the band this summer. CMT.com had an article about it and a link to the Del McCoury site and some quotes from Mike about it. Apparently it was a complete shock to him and handled poorly, at least that's the feeling I got from the article and the quotes from Mike. As for the stalker thing, I read also on the cmt site that she had hired a body buard because of the stalker and I read on that post there were some things going on this tour which required a body guard as well.

I agree with you Candy, that Mike will have no problem finding another job, but I"m still shocked to hear that he got fired from the band. Must be a heck of an interesting story behind the truth on that one...

(This is a rather long post, but it gives as much of the background as I've seen on line).
"Cybergrass" reported Mike Bub's departure in this article:
"Mike Bub, one of the finest bluegrass bass players in the world, is no longer a part of the Del McCoury Band. In a move that surprised the bluegrass community, it was recently announced that Mike has "left the building." Mike Bub is not only a fine musician but, is a fine person as well. He is generous and well loved within the bluegrass world.
In a message by Mike Bub on the Del McCoury web site, Mike says, "Friends & Fans, Mike Bub here wishing to formally inform you of my departure from the DMB. After thirteen years of loyal service, Galax is to be my last show. Yes, untimely, surprising and unexpected, I share these reactions with all of you. My week did not start out with any preconcieved notions of this and ended up quite differently. I would like to thank all of you for your support of the DMB down through the years and especially your support of my role as bass player. I leave with my full respect of Del and Jean and all the boys in tact and I appreciate to no end what they have done for me and my family. Without hesitation I can say I feel priveleged to have met so many great people and feel fortunate to call so many of you friends. The future is unknown but I know that the band and myself will move on and prosper. I hope to see you all again with whatever new endeavor comes my way and I encourage you to stick with the DMB through the upcoming changes and challenges that are facing them as well." This is the positive outlook that Mike has shared with us all and keep him a measure above many others. Bands often change their roster and often suddenly. This is part of the business and has become accepted. From the early days of Bill Monroe through hundreds of other popular bands, member changes are a fact of life.
Del spoke at the Grass Valley Bluegrass Festival, aired by XM radio, and confirmed the band change. He praised Mike for his contributions and wished him well.
We also wish Mike the best in securing a new band to perform with and we also wish the Del McCoury Band the best. Both the band and Mike will have some adjusting to do but, as history has shown, this may be God's blessing and end up better for both. We look forward to the new and better things that both Mike and Del can bring to the world of bluegrass music. Music is a live entity that is constantly growing and evolving in new and better ways and I'm sure that this change will result in new and exciting music for bluegrass. "
Mike himself replied to the Cybergrass article:
"I don't really have any comment other than I am not leaving music, just Del's band. Bluegrass is all I have endeavored to play since I was 15 years old and it won't stop now. I will give this a little time and space and I know new things will come my way and possibly bigger and better than I ever expected. Thanks for you support through the years. Mike Bub"
Fans on the Del McCoury message board reported:
that Mike had produced a record release for the Steep Canyon Rangers (before leaving McCoury)
and that, in November, he performed on stage with the Jamie Hartford Band (that, of course, could just have been a guest appearence)
Hope that helps!
