Alison Krauss, Ricky Skaggs take in Cadillac Sky in Nashville
By Blair Lovern
The new C-Sky CD, Blind Man Walking, hit stores this week, and the band celebrated by giving a bunch of Nashville people a show. One audience member was Alison Krauss - aka "The Greatness", I do believe, referenced in a recent MySpace blog from the group, which is posted at the end of this story.
Sonya Isaacs and Ricky Skaggs sang with the boys, too. I have never heard Isaacs sing "Homesick Angel" with the band live. I cannot imagine what that would be like. It's one of the most stirring songs I've heard in a long time.
Band manager Clint Simpson, brother of lead singer Bryan, said the Nashville show was "amazing." Basically, I would have killed to have been there. And, yes, I mean actually take a man's life. Now, you cannot tell, but actually - in between that last sentence there and this one - I thought for a small amount of time whether I would take a man's life, and I came to the conclusion that I don't think I could do that. Where that sort of scrutiny of one's thoughts registers on the psychopath scale I don't know. I would guess it would rate pretty high. OK, let's pretend I didn't think that.
Seriously, CMT/CMT.com editorial director Chet Flippo wrote about C-Sky not too long ago: "The best new voice I've heard lately belongs to Bryan Simpson, the lead singer, mandolin player and chief songwriter for the new freewheeling bluegrass group Cadillac Sky. He sounds at once authoritative and warm and wise."
I know he's got a bonkers last name, but when Mr. Flippo writes something like that, take heed.

C-Sky with Ricky Skaggs
High fives and hand pounds to the soldiers of the C-Sky nation, and a chest bump to those who are in the "butterflies in the belly" stage of their C-sky romance. Just know that each and every one of you are loved and appreciated by each of us: Cap'n Dook, Matt, The Silverfox, Panda, and the Ottr....Well, it finally came out. "Blind Man Walking" our new Skaggs Family Records release hit stores at midnight of January 23rd, 2007. WE are so excited to see what people will think. We made this record in the summer of 2005 so we have been patiently, some times more than others, waiting since then for yesterday to come. Last night, we had the release party in Nashville, our home away from home these days, at the Mercy Lounge. It was a good time.. Sonya came out and sang "Homesick" with us, Jeff Taylor threw down on the pennywhistle, the C-Sky Soul Stirring Brother and Sista Choir brought a little church to the Mercy Lounge as we got the spirit on Sinners Welcome, and Ricky came up and sang and played mando on "Never Been so Blue" with a little help on fiddle from K-Thunder phenom Andy Leftwich. Truly terrfic. But I will have to chastise my brother for whispering in my ear right before we went on that he thought he saw "The Greatness" herself in the crowd. LIke there wasn't already enough pressure with the folks I knew that were there. Anyway, we so appreciate everybody who joined us on stage and everybody who was there to see it. Today, we must climb from our hotel beds with sore arms from the "pinch-me" moments, and go do a couple of interviews and live performances on XM Satellite radio. It's been a great week and we're only to hump day. Now, please everybody go and tell folks to just give the new CD a listen. We really like getting to do this. All my love to ya- Cap'n Dook.
