So, um, I may have just spent a nice chunk of change for an 8th row seat to see Alison and the boys' final concert in Knoxville. Even though I'm already going to see them in Atlanta. ;D
Who else here is going to see/has already seen this tour?

I saw the show at the Mondavi Center in Davis, CA a few weeks ago: Second row aisle seats.
It was a phenomenal show and close enough so that I could watch the dynamics between Alison and Dan that were often quite funny.
Don't worry about going over the top....I suddenly found myself buying expensive liquidator tickets online for the Saturday show at the Ryman in August. Add airfare and hotel, well....I like to think that I am still somewhat normal.

Oh my gosh, Dan and Alison are my favorite. Seriously. They seem like the closest of the bunch and I've always loved their teasing and the little faces they make at each other onstage. You should write a concert review for us here!
I'm going to have to lie to my parents about how much money I spent, and drive six hours there to an unfamiliar city and then six hours back... so yeah, completely normal sacrifices for a second round of AKUS. =D
Which row do you have at the Ryman? I was just going to get a cheap ticket in Knoxville, just to be there for the final show, but there's a peculiar process that happens when you give in to the temptation of looking at those liquidator websites. You start balancing the row number with the price tag, and somehow they start to cancel each other out so that suddenly $200 doesn't REALLY seem like so much money... Or maybe I'm just addicted to being as close as possible. XD

I understand the psychology--first a trip with a historian friend to Civil War battlefields becomes 4 days alone in Nashville because I couldn't stop thinking about the Blue Bird Cafe and the Ryman and the Station Inn. Since I was going to Nashville, why not go at the end of August and then it snowballed into flying across the country to see AKUS at the Ryman and why "cheap out" on seats. I will be in the 4th row left of center.
So, what BUY button did your trembling finger hit on the ticket site? What row will you be in? The last show should be memorable.
Although I read that there will be, at least, one show in England in November. Perhaps you should look for your passport.
Grateful Dave did a great review of the show in Davis in an earlier post. I was in one of the rows that lost sound for 4 or 5 minutes when a front speaker went out. It was interesting that even very close to the stage, without the sound system it was difficult to hear anything from 20 feet away.
I heard Dan remark in an interview on the "Live" DVD that one of his jobs was to assure and support the band as it moves through a show. Sitting close you can see how he turns Alison and nods and grins or mouths encouragement or a joke, especially after a song. You don't happen to read lips, do you? I couldn't figure out what he was saying but he would often make her laugh. I could also see him encouraging her rambling stories especially when she went off script and hit a dead end.
I am sure that your parents would understand. lol

I would love to be at one of their Knoxville shows since I live less than an hour east of that area, but I really don't know if it will happen for me. Alison and the guys have always been a hard act for me to see due to one reason or another. These two shows will make like the 11th & 12th time that Alison has done a show here in East Tennessee. I was only able to be at these three of them:
1.) Dollywood in October of 1997 2.) Kingsport, TN for Fun Fest in July of 2003 3.) Tennessee Theatre in January of 2005
What made things worse for me there is that I was sick during that first and last time.
God bless you and Alison and the guys always!!!
P.S. I did get to see Alison when she came into Kingsport on the end of the Santa Train route just before Thanksgiving of 2006, but I wasn't able to get a picture of us together or anything signed by her, but I was able to tell her that she is my role model just as she was getting on her bus to go home. I'll never forget the way that she smiled at me when she told me thank you.

I was late to get tickets to their detroit concert due to lack of funds, but when I had the money I certainly made sure that I spent good chunk of it on the closest seats I could get. It was painful watching the presale dates go by knowing that I was still 3 weeks away from pay day. That made not beileving in using credit cards incredibly hard. Fortunately I live in an area where not too many people listen to AKUS. I was anxious because I heard that the shows sold out in a matter of hours in some other places.
Although my seats aren't terribly close (better believe that if I had the money earlier, there would have been nothing stopping me from spending my entire check on orchestra seats), but they are still main floor just left of center. It's my first ever concert, I would say that it is a good intro to concert going to attend an AKUS concert. Agreed?

akusfanforeverrr,
I am a Michigan alum and grew up near Detroit. I was curious about what kind of reception AKUS would get in downtown Detroit since so many people outside of the city just don't go there anymore.
However, the Fox remains an exquisite venue.
Please report back after the show.

I went to the one in Los Angeles! I ended up lying to my mom about the whole thing...she doesn't know I went, doesn't know I spent tons of money, doesn't know I went with a friend that I met on the internet whom, prior to this, I had never met before. It was one of the best nights of my life and probably my favorite concert ever, partially because I got to give Alison flowers and it was pretty much the coolest moment of my life. If I didn't have tickets to go see Britney Spears (who couldn't even come close to comparing to AKUS...) the following night, I probably would have ended up spending even more money and go up to Santa Barbara to see them again that night.

Greenmoray, your story is officially more epic than mine! I'm going to be in the 8th row, far left side in Knoxville. I almost bought fifth row, but it was $100 more for three rows closer. And I would have sprung for pit seats, but for that stupid "ticket pairs must always be sold together" rule. In Atlanta I have no idea where I'll be because I got the presale Will Call tickets. (Does anybody know where those seats usually are, btw? Until I find out I'm just going to pretend that it's front row, unlikely as that is at the Fox Theatre/Country Club. ) Dan is just the biggest cutie. I've noticed when Alison starts rambling Dan's always involved, egging her on or commenting or telling her when it's time to stop. I can't read lips but I'm sure I could learn by the end of September! ;D Nascarholly, you poor thing! I nearly died the ONE time Alison came to Atlanta and I couldn't go! I figure I'm making up for it now by seeing her in Knoxville. =D But you've been a fan for a lot longer than I have. This will be Alison's fifth time coming to Atlanta since I've been a fan, and my fourth & fifth time seeing her. Akusfanforeverrr, it's your first live concert? Oh my gosh, congratulations! There's nobody better to see for your first time than AKUS, but I'm sure you already know that! They were my first concert, too. I sat in the very last row, and my eyes were going bad but I hadn't yet gotten glasses, so Alison looked like a small white blur in the distance, but I was entranced. I hope your first concert experience is better than that, though! XD ETA: Allie, you should skip out behind your mom's back and fly out here to see Alison again with yet another friend you met on the internet! =D I'll spend the last of my money on a balcony ticket for the first Knoxville show so we can sit together if you will! XD

XD Not going to lie, I legit considered it when you told me you were going. I'm not sure if you're joking or not but there's no way I could actually pull it off lol. I gave my sister my debit card so I have no access to my money but if I could pull it off, I seriously would (gosh, the things we do for Alison...pulling out of my secret savings account...AGAIN lol). I'll just be there with you in spirit! And waiting anxiously for you to get home so I can hear alllllllll about it! ;D

Allie- I am pretty sure I would have started hyperventillating if I were that close to the band. I cannot even tell you how many times I have met them in my dreams and even in the dreams (how sad) I could hardly muster the courage to say more than "yoouu-youu-yoouurrree- Al-Ali-son KR- KRA-USS!! *wakes up*" I did have one where I was in a jam session with the band (I play guitar) and Alison described Bluegrass music as "A warm summer breeze blowing on your face" Pretty sure that's not an actual quote. lol.

Part of it was because I actually had to hassle with a security guard and I couldn't be like, "oh my god that's Alison Krauss right there" because I was trying to figure out how I was going to make it happen because the security guard was trying to pull me back to my seat and Alison hadn't noticed me. It all worked out in the end, though, and if you click the heart in my sig it'll take you to the video of it I just noticed you said AKUS is your first concert ever - how cool!! Not only do you get to experience how amazing concerts are, but it gets to be even twice as amazing because it's AKUS! You're going to love it AKUS was my 20th concert (I've been to more concerts than years I have lived...) and it still felt like the first time.

OH MY GOSH that is soo cool that you got to do that. I definitely would have started stammering like an idiot. Boo the security guard. Do they really need security guards? Seems like a tad much...

When I gave Alison flowers, the security was obviously necessary because Robert Plant's fans could get seriously crazy. I know Alison needs a bodyguard 'cause she once had a stalker, but besides that, I think the security is just standard venue procedure for big acts like AKUS. At least they're not as strict about photography and video nowadays as they were just a few years ago!
Allie, I figured you wouldn't be able to make it, but I seriously would spend my last money for it if you could. ♥

Yeah, I understand when she toured with Plant, (reference to my signature, lol). Glad they aren't strict about photography- I want to at least get pic of them on stage if I can't rush the stage and give AK flowers
