Alison is being interviewed by a NY TImes journalist on Thursday, January 5 on stage at the TimesCenter in NYC as part of an Arts & Lectures Weekend. artsandleisureweekend.com/It "appears" that the interview will be streamed live online. I say "appears" because in the left hand column in red it says Watch Live Online, but it really isn't clear. That said, the lecture auditorium is quite small and it may be true that the interview will stream live at 6 p.m. EST.

Sure looks like it'll be streamed live! Good news. Would've been nice if this had been announced earlier, though.

So Mindy, Africa and I all asked questions and we're in the video (and I look atrocious but whatever). I think we seriously amused Alison. She signed autographs after and we got our individual pictures with her then we hung around for a group shot and this happened when I suggested something fun: From left to right: me, Kristen, Africa, Alison, Melissa, Annie (chasingsunshine), and Mindy (silverqueen).

THIS WAS THE MOST AMAZING TRIP EVER!! She was so incredibly nice and amazing. I almost made her swear when I said I flew from Idaho but she corrected herself before she finished lol. I can't wait to watch the whole interview again and try and remember all those little things. AMAZING NIGHT!!

Annie I like how we're sitting next to each other in the Newark airport and still commenting here. I'm going to miss this This trip was amazing though. I tried to make the trip work (I live in Los Angeles) for a month and I had officially been set on not going because it was too hard to pull off, but I ended up just saying, "screw this, I'm going," and thanks to Annie, was able to book it about 36 hours before I was scheduled to leave and it was amazing. Annie and I both are west coasters who have never seen NYC so we went out together the morning of the interview and went around NYC and it was just an amazing trip. Oh, and I got to hug Alison. ♥ (The fact that she's grinning in this while hugging me just means the world to me. I think in candid moments like this, a picture can capture an split second of truth that you would have never seen before, you know? And that it's not fake or posed or anything - the smile there is totally genuine. ♥ I would have never known that she was grinning like this while hugging me. ♥ ♥ ♥)

So, did anyone save the live stream? Was it audio or video? I was stuck someplace I didn't want to be, with somebody I didn't really want to be with, and couldn't watch. Said person would not have understood. I hope it winds up on YouTube!!

Thanks for those amazing pics Allie, really sweet! ;D The interview made it to youtube, thanks to the uploader dahliacorona...skip to 2:40 to get to the interview I was surprised what she said about Tony Rice, it sounded like she barely knew him before 2007...I had thought her and U.S. had toured and opened for him as far back as the late 80's, and were old friends

She'd toured with him in the 80's and 90's and at those shows they were always joking around and he was singing her praises - with varying levels of effusive profanity - but from what I remember of the 2007 tour, she was really nervous because she'd never toured that extensively with him, day after day, and also because she was singing HIS songs. I think it was just a new level of friendship that she'd never gotten to have with him before.
But now that I know for sure that recording is locked away in a vault somewhere, I want to start a campaign to get it released. Because oh. My. God. That tour.
(Also: I'm sure lots of us already knew her middle name was Maria. There'd been an argument over it in the discussion page on Wikipedia though. When I get home I plan to change the citation on her middle name to link to that video, with a note like "she told me so herself, a-holes.")

Thanks for the insight silverqueen.
There's a recording (on sugarmegs) of them playing together, back in '88. Tony is going to do a Bill Monroe song, accompanied by Alison, and he remarks that she's a lot prettier than Bill. There's a pause, then Alison says, "so are you". Scripted or not, it just cracked me up! BTW, there's also a recording of them together in '07 (I think it was Merlefest) at the sugarmegs site.
So her middle name is Maria, hmmmmm...her mom's italian, so I wonder if she was named after some maternal ancestor...

Try 2 find the Wichita Rutherford interview from a few years ago, it'll give you an insight into this line of discussion..........

Turbo - you talking about the name thing or the Tony Rice thing?
"Maria" is also German (The Sound of Music, anyone?) so it could be either, I suppose. Apparently "Alison" is also old German, and considering that "Viktor Karl" is about as German as you can get, I wouldn't be surprised if they both just got German names all around.
