There are alot of artists out there who are really great entertainers with an amazing stage presence. They manage to keep your attention because they are so active on stage that you wonder what they are going to do next. Now obviously they are doing something right with their music to get that many fans to come out and see them, but when we do see them perform it is generally about the performance of it all--the dramatics on stage. The thing I like so much about Alison and the guys from Union Station is that they don't have to run around on stage to keep my attention. Their music is entertainment enough! Rather than fancy footwork; it's fancy fretwork. The music of AKUS is more than capable of standing on its own. They don't have to be overly-dramatic or flamboyant; they just have to be themselves. Even when Alison was performing with Robert Plant (arguably one of the best "performers" of all time) it was the music that kept the show going. I personally have alot of respect for the no-frills way she performs. It's always obvious she's just having a great time playing and singing and being silly and that she wants to do her best for her fans. How many other artists are capable of that?

Right on! And I love that she has the sense to, even next to Robert Plant, stay herself !

Very true, boredfan. That is yet another reason why I have such adoration for Alison! I recently went to a mainstream artist's concert. Though he/she was dancing around stage and displaying tons of energy, the music just wasn't there. That's what I always thought concerts were about.. music. I've heard many live performances of Alison's that have been even better than the record. Now that's entertainment! Big welcome to the board, boredfan! Looking forward to more of these great posts!

If there were no music, I would not get through. I don't know why I know these things, but I do

i haven't seen Alison live yet (REALLY want to, seriously, it's added to my life goals) but some recordings of live shows have popped up on Imeem, Dizzler, etc, and normally I don't like live recordings because they sound horrible compared to studio recordings, but I have noticed that with Alison sometimes the live sounds better than the studio.
