Firstly sorry I haven't written this sooner as the concert was indeed last Wed 7th Sep in Edinburgh, bonnie Scotland! I know how you all like a good review Well here goes... I was 6 rows from the stage sittin on the aisle seat so had an excellent view. When Ron came out to tune his guitars I nearly fell off the seat! I'm sittin thinkin, man alive he actually exists! These folk are real & they're gonna sing here any minute!! I know that sounds a bit rare, but it was sooooo exciting!! So anyway, when they all came out on stage everyone clapped & all (obv!) & I was just blown away by the moment! Alison was stunning in a lovely dress of like a white satin part as the underneath bit & then black sort of see thru thin material (not net stuff but u get the idea!) over it with if I remember right a large flower print at one side? Knee length dress. As you've realised by now I'm not the best at describing stuff!! Hope you get the idea! She had high heel strappy silver sandals on & a big shiny clip at 1 side in her hair, which is a similar length to how it is in the latest music video GIAWH.
They started with Restless which was awesome & even included drums! I thought that was a bit strange bit then liked it ok. Next up was Dan on This Sad Song followed by Jerry's newest Unionhouse Branch. I didn't write down the set list at the concert but thought about it when I came home, tho obviously not in the right order. The rest were, in no particular order:
Gravity, Rain Please Go Away, Goodbye Is All We Have, Wouldn't Be So Bad, Pastures of Plenty, My Poor Old Heart, Baby Now That I've Found You, The Lucky One, We Hide And Seek, Man Of Constant Sorrow, Morning Light (Ron's), short unnamed instrumental, Forget About It, Everytime You Say Goodbye, Bright Sunny South, When You Say Nothing At All, It Don't Matter Now, & Jerry did 4 during his solo spot about halfway thru - Lil Ro Ro, another I can't remb name of he wrote for Sam Bush after he fell in JD's driveway & broke his arm!, Little Martha and Monkey Let The Hogs Out.
The last song was Oh Atlanta sung with much gusto & not how some of you have heard it recently prompting you to wonder about Alison's voice, she was most definitely in fine form here & I was glad to hear her hitting all the high notes no probs!!
The encore was Down To The River To Pray which was lovely, & then A Living Prayer which I'd hoped they'd do It was sooooo beautiful, it's 1 of Ron's best. ;D All the guys played on it, it didn't just have the 2 guitars. Barry added a little bass & Jerry added a few dobro notes, I think even Larry had a soft beat goin'. It was different from the CD obviously, but I liked it.
I couldn't believe it was over after that
Alison's humour was also in fine form, she poked fun at the guys as usual! After the 1st few songs she told us how beautiful they thought Scotland is coming over on the ferry from Ireland. She said sumthin like how do you guys go anywhere else & be impressed when you live here! Awww We all clapped & cheered of course! Nice compliment
She was hilarious with Barry who'd been down at Holyrood Park that day lookin at the geese of course. She was jokin' around with the fiddle pretending it was Barry with a gun saying ' oh look at the nice geese...bang bang!' She pointed the fiddle & pretended it was his gun shooting when she was sayin this!! Not just once but a few times!! It was soooo funny!! Dangerous woman with that fiddle! Barry proceeded to tell us all the score of the Scotland football match in the middle of all this - Scotland won
Ron had been in nice wee old bookshops that day & found a signed copy of a George MacDonald book from the 1800s, so he was happy. I thought it was nice she let him tell us that himself & Barry did a good bit of talking too, I noticed on the Live DVD she does most of the talkin about them.
Dan said about how his wife didn't know what a voiceover was when he was gonna do it in OBWAT, basically what he says on the DVD.
Another thing, Jerry shared with us where the inspiration for the title of his new instrumental Lil Ro Ro came from - basically a guy who went to school with his son Patrick decided he wanted to be a rapper & came up with this name for himself!!
Oh Alison said about Ron that he'd had a profound effect on them all...especially his negative attitude!! Funny girl!
True fan that I am I respected their no photo policy (tho now I'm kicking myself!!) I also bought a nice bright yellow tour shirt!! It's wild bright! I thought I have to have this! Apparently the concert was being filmed to make some kinda documentary so we can look forward to that! The evening was over all too quickly but was the absolute best I hope they're enjoying the rest of their UK tour - thanks AKUS for giving us a truly magical 2 hours of our lives!! God Bless you! ;D
