"Oh, Atlanta, I hear you calling." That was the theme of the day Tuesday, and the roadtrip song of the day for me as Natalie, Carol and I made our way through the hills of Tennessee into Georgia. We made it to Atlanta a little before the show began. I normally don't speed, but this was a special occasion.
So we find the Fox Theater and make our way inside. It was an amazing place. Everything was top notch, even the restrooms I heard. We got our tickets and made our way to Dr. Ralph Stanley's table. There we met up with Natalie's friend Ben who we talked with for a while. Then the lights in the lobby flickered signaling it was about time for the show to begin.
We made our way to our seats, and after some fine tuning ended up in the right spots. The seats were fantastic. Really close to the action. Then we started enjoying an evening of incredible music, and amazing talent. Having seen the show a few weeks earlier, I was excited to see some of the song changes a few of the acts had done. Out of the 3 this show was by far my most favorite. Everyone out there was great.
My nerves grew as Cody and Sierra Hull preformed because I knew who was coming on next. I stood up as Alison Krauss and Union Station made their way to the microphones. I was so excited and sat grinning as they preformed. To me it feels like seeing an old friend again. When they finished their tunes it was intermission time.
Again we went to the lobby where Natalie and Carol chatted with some more folks they knew. I was already having a blast. Not only seeing my most favorite person in the whole world sing again, but hanging out with some of the coolest, sweetest people I've ever met. Plus being in a new city, it was like an adventure!
Then back to our seats. Out comes the greatest and she starts singing "A Living Prayer" I sat still in my seat watching and listening with tears rolling down my cheeks. That song is so amazing to me. I watched in awe as the song played. Then something kind of funny happened. You guys know how Oh, Atlanta and When God Dips His Love sound kind of alike at the beginning? Nat, Carol and I had said when they do When God Dips...maybe the people will think its Oh, Atlanta. I think they did because when the music started the crowd was so loud! I got a good chuckle out of it anyway.
After the big finish we went to find another of Nat's friends Tim. He was a really super guy. Out by the buses I felt more nervous and nauseous than I ever have in my life. We saw Dan and Jerry, and luckily had pictures with both. They were so cool. Dan was a funny guy. Natalie got to get a pic with Suzanne Cox too which was so cool.
Then probably the greatest moment in my entire life out of the door walks Alison Krauss. That's right not just Alison, but Alison Krauss. I was shaking and could hardly talk. It's a good thing Natalie and Carol where there to push me up near her. I couldn't believe it was really her. She was signing stuff for people and posing for pictures. Then it was my turn. I asked for a picture, and Natalie was so great to take it for me. I could have died. I wish I could have said more, but I was so stunned. As we walked away I shed a few more tears. It was litterally a dream come true to say hello to your hero. You guys know what I mean. It was absolutely the greatest moment of all times.
I couldn't and still can't thank Natalie enough. She's so great. I couldn't stop smiling the whole way back, and when I look at the picture now it makes me smile still. I can't wait for the next show I'll see, and I know Atlanta will always be special place in my memories.
