Amazingly revealing article on Alison and the gang recording paper airplane. The article is an interview with the sound engineer Alison picked to run the studio sessions. One interesting tidbit is that Alison recorded vocals live with the band while they recorded their parts together in a room, but then Alison came back with the sound engineer and spent months recording and rerecording her vocals. Which is even more interesting because the year before that she had been quoted saying Robert Plant had changed the way she approached the studio and that she wanted to just focus on giving one or two good recordings and calling it a day. Guess that didn't work out. Article: www.soundonsound.com/sos/jul11/articles/it-0711.htmExcerpt: "“Alison sang a guide vocal during tracking, but would overdub her lead vocals later. We probably spent six or seven months, off and on, recording just her vocals. She doesn’t like to have many people in the room when she’s recording vocals, so most of the time it’d be just her and me...Doing vocals with her is an amazing experience. It’s very emotional, and the hairs at the back of my neck would often be standing up.”"
