Found this at Ron’s website. Can't wait to hear the new cd, sounds like it will be great, but is there anyway to go wrong with a set of musicians like that? I think not.
Update on New Recording
The writing phase of the new cd is coming along well. So far I've got two traditional-sounding bluegrass songs (I'll be writing more of these), a strange two-part acoustic guitar instrumental, two rockish songs, a couple of slower ones, and two fingerpicky numbers (one pretty and the other more bluesy). Still have a little under three weeks to go before the arranging phase.
The basic band as it now stands will be Barry Bales, Dan Tyminski, Adam Steffey, Jerry Douglas, and Alison Krauss; Vik Krauss will play bass on three or four, and Shannon Forrest, a great Nashville drummer, will play drums on three (so far). Background vocals will be by Dan, Alison, Sidney and Suzanne Cox, and I'm fairly certain I can get the Forbes Family to sing on several as well. Gary Paczosa, the phenomenal engineer of our AKUS recordings, will be doing the tracking and mixing. My longtime friend Eric Uglum (Weary Hearts, Lost Highway) and his excellent pair of production ears will be helping me during the tracking phase in August.

Sorry I just noticed the only difference is that it gives the tracking phase dates.

Update on New Recording
Tracking is finished; all the musicians played beautifully and appropriately on each track (of course they did...they're some of the best players in the world). Eric Uglum helped me keep a handle on my overly analytical tendencies. Gary Paczosa did his usual stellar job of capturing tones. Dan played his '46 Martin Herringbone, and I used a '37 and a '38 Martin D28, along with my new Huber banjo (I loved the tone, and I find I can do all sorts of hammer-ons and pull-offs with great ease because of the tone and frets).
I laughed more this week than I have in a long time. Those guys are hilarious.
I've got a lot of work to do in the next two months; I hope to have everything done and ready to mix by then.
Here's a photo of Adam Steffey, myself, Barry Bales, Dan Tyminski, and Jerry Douglas getting ready to record Above the Line: (couldn't get the picture , just go to ronblock.com) Some of the people involved in making the recording: Barry Bales (bass), Dan Tyminski (guitar, vocals) Eric Uglum (production assistance) Jerry Douglas (dobro, lap steel) Viktor Krauss (bass) Gary Paczosa (engineer) Adam Steffey (mandolin, mandola) Shannon Forrest, the drummer on three tracks, was truly amazing, with magical sense of time and feel. And Vik Krauss is another first-rate musician; he locked up perfectly with Shannon.

Overdubs continue in my basement studio. I'm looking to finish all my parts (acoustic and electric guitars, vocals, editing) by the time AKUS goes on the road for the first half of November. In late November I'll finish up with fiddle and viola (Alison), lap steel/dobro (Jerry Douglas), some mandolin overdubs by Adam Steffey that we weren't able to get to in August, and harmony vocals by various folks. I'll also be doing preliminary mixing (mostly just volume rides). I'm looking to have Gary Paczosa mix by the end of December and have the record released by mid to late April.
