Eh.. I haven't yet decided.. but when I do, I'll let you know. The album's great, just not one of my favorites, so I find myself drifting away when I put it in.

I'm not good at picking favorite anythings...But I've got "Through The Morning, Through The Night" fiercely stuck in my head right now and I'm not complainin' because it's a beauty of a song. Who knows what tomorrow will hold? They're all so beautiful and different from the other, I almost feel like picking a favorite would require me to compare apples and oranges. But that's how I feel about everything lol.

Well a couple of weeks on and at the minute Sister Rosetta is the one that is on repeat the most. First couple times I heard it I didn't really like it and then I heard the line "I know I loved you too much, I'll go alone to get through" and that made me look at the song differently and now I cannot get it out of my head but everytime I listen I hear new things and they draw me to the different songs. Take Care Steph

I can't decide between "Killing the blues", "Please read the letter" and "Let your loss be your lesson". But if I HAVE to pick one right now I'd go for the latter, if only because I think it's really cool how she didn't change the pronouns!

Tal, you may want to check out our discussion in the "Raising Sand - the Reviews are Pouring In" thread as we discuss this very point.

So, after listening many times I just got to say, I just really, really love what she does with the fiddle on this album!

ITA.... I would never even guess that was her on "Nothin'."

And it's so different from song to song. From a pure beauty similar to her voice on"sister Rosetta" to the raw emotionality on "nothin'. " I can't think of another word but brilliant!

That's *exactly* how I feel about this CD, Tal. Not only is the work in its entirety nothing like any other music that's being played right now, but even each song on the album is different from the next...yet somehow they stay cohesive enough with one another to make sense and flow well. Nothing is an earsore, in other words. And, is it just me, or does "Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson" borrow a little guitar riff from Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Ballad of Curtis Lowe?"
Anyway, it's an awesome album that has truly grown on me more and more the longer I've owned it. I knew I was going to like it, but I never dreamed that I would be as moved by it as I am. It's like I hear a new layer to it with each listen.

Yeah, it hear what you mean. I didn't know lynyrd skynyrd's ballad so had to look it up. And, hooray once again for Youtube ( in spite of it being mono ) but it does sound alike initially.

I am going to have to go with Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us. It was the first one that really stood out to me. I love the beat. And the opening lyrics " Strange things are happening everyday, I hear the music up above my head" I love them. Genius song.
